Howdy folks! My real job kicked my butt this week, so work on the #SavedTheCrew reaction pieces had come to a halt as my time and energy needed to be focused elsewhere, but here’s a quick Friday afternoon #SavedTheCrew snack as you head into the weekend.
John DeBrito spent three years with the Crew from 1999-2001, and he was recently back in town for the Legends Game this past October. You can read some of his thoughts about coming back to town in my recap of The Day The Crew Legends Returned.
I recently had a super-quick chat with DeBrito while he was at the gym and I was on a break at work, so here’s what he had to say in “lightning round” format…
On the Crew being 100% officially saved:
It was exciting to hear that the Crew will stay where they belong, which is in Columbus.
On Dr. Pete being part of the ownership group:
I hadn’t spoken to Pete in years until recently, but he’s always had a special relationship with the Crew, so to have him as a part owner is exciting. He is Crew at heart, so I’m really happy for him.
On historic MAPFRE Stadium being retained as part of the new training facility and public sports park:
That’s even better news. That’s great to hear that. It’s great for the city and the history of soccer. It’s the first stadium in MLS and I’m glad they’ll still use the stadium. That’s awesome. It’s good to see.
On the fans and their successful #SaveTheCrew movement:
The fans now remind me of the fans when I was there. They are great supporters and enthusiastic for the club. They are just great fans. It’s well-deserved. I’m so happy for the city and all of the fans, present and past. It’s unbelievable. I am very happy for them.
A MASSIVE SEASON is now available as an ebook.
