#SavedTheCrew Reaction: Federico Higuain

Federico Higuain came to Columbus in 2012 and has been the playmaking focal point of the team for seven seasons and counting. He is the only member of the 50/50 club in Crew history, tallying 54 goals and 58 assists heading into 2019. At 34, there is still a chance that with another healthy season or two, he could be the Crew’s all-time leader in both goals and assists. Wouldn’t that be something.

In the crush of media day, I got a chance to ask Pipa a few quick questions about the saving of the Crew.  Here’s what he had to say…

*****

On the city and now knowing that the club will stay in Columbus:

The city means a lot to me and my family. We are really excited. We are really excited for everything that is going on. I want to say thank you to the Haslam and Edwards families because they were very important in this movement to save the Crew.

On the new training facility and downtown stadium:

I think it is going to be very nice for the club, with the new facility and the new stadium. I think it will be nice for the players, the coaches and staff, and the fans. I’m happy with this new news and I wish to be a part of that moment.

On what he would say to the fans who spearheaded the #SaveTheCrew movement:

They were amazing. They were amazing. I feel really proud about my club and about my city. People may not give too much credit about this movement, but I do. This was a romantic story with a happy end. It’s a show of affection and a show of love from the people and the Haslam family and the Edwards family to this city. I think Saturday is going to be good for everybody. For players and fans, it’s going to be a good moment.
