BOOK PRE-ORDER: “A Massive Collection, Volume 1”

I am thrilled to announce that my new book A Massive Collection, Volume 1 is currently available for an exclusive pre-sale via the Nordecke. The pre-sale runs now through 11:59pm on October 24, 2019. In furtherance of supporting not only the Columbus Crew on the field, but also the Columbus community off it, the Nordecke will be donating a portion of the proceeds from each sale to the Gladden House.

There will be a Nordecke event at Endeavor Brewing on Saturday, November 16, 2019, that will double as a book signing and local pick-up for those who choose that option. For those who want their books mailed, the mailing process will begin in the days following the event. The book will go live with online retailers the day before Thanksgiving, so ordering via the Nordecke pre-sale will get you the book before its general release date, plus it will direct funds to the Gladden House, whose mission is to strengthen the children, families, and community in Franklinton and its surrounding neighborhoods.

The 278-page book will be $20 for the paperback and $30 for the gold hardcover. I’ve never done a hardcover before, so it will be neat to have an option for something sturdier.

A MASSIVE COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 DESCRIPTION

Historian Steve Sirk has delighted Columbus Crew fans for more than two decades by writing with both humor, heart, and humanity about the first club in Major League Soccer. “A Massive Collection, Volume 1” is the first wide-ranging collection of his work, featuring long-lost stories dating as far as back 1997, plus many popular favorites from over the years.

Whether it’s features spanning the likes of Mark Dougherty, Frankie Hejduk, or Josh Williams; surreal moments such as the 1996 pitch invasion or the 2013 scoreboard fire; big events like the 2002 U.S. Open Cup championship or hosting MLS Cup 2015; or even absurdities like an oral history of several players’ 2013 preseason visit to Medieval Times, this fully-annotated collection touches on numerous aspects of Crew history, big and small.

Also among the 43 stories are three features exclusive to the book, including a Crew-focused reflection on club founder Lamar Hunt and the surreal behind-the-scenes story of how rapper Biz Markie became a viral-video ally of the #SaveTheCrew movement.

Like Sirk’s two previous titles—”A Massive Season” and “Kirk Urso: Forever Massive”—“A Massive Collection, Volume 1” figures to be an essential addition to any Columbus Crew fan’s bookshelf.

This is an independent publication, not an official Columbus Crew publication.
